Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE):
EU mobility and employability through the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice

At its core, the Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE) project recognises the value of intercultural dialogue as a cornerstone of peaceful co-existence of nations based on tolerance, openness, and a sense of togetherness within the European Union and beyond. We see the key role of the representatives of the teaching profession in helping to initiate and support a sustainable long-term dialogue in the dynamically changing and increasingly integrated world, which we hope will create a strong feeling of professional community. Our main goal is to enable EFL teacher trainees, as well as newly qualified teachers of English, to enrich their classroom practices through the experience of working in an international and intercultural context with the interdisciplinary perspective in mind. To enable the internationalisation of teacher training and employment as well as trainees’ mobility, we set out to identify the skills and knowledge that are key to efficient functioning in a new systemic and cultural setting, and to find ways of making these skills and knowledge available to young people at the beginning of their teaching careers.

Through close cooperation within the Erasmus+ project of the partner universities – University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic; Aston University, United Kingdom; University of Passau, Germany; Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland; Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia; Public University of Navarra, Spain – we are on a mission to learn about and from one another. Our collaboration involves the exchange of expertise and resources, the development of documents, and the direct observation of teaching practices in primary and secondary schools in partner countries. It also fosters the integration of trainers, experts, and students from different educational and cultural backgrounds through joint projects, workshops, and the IT communication platform.

As passionate believers in the benefits of this international experience of sharing, co-creating, and getting insights into a diversity of educational contexts, we hope to inspire and empower both prospective and in-sevice teachers. As ambassadors of TEFE, they will practise and promote different forms of internationalisation in their work for their own, their students’ and communities’ benefit.
